Les locataires du 272, rue Caroline Sud \u00e0 Hamilton s\u2019unissent dans l\u2019optique de maintenir le caract\u00e8re abordable de l\u2019immeuble de 21\u00a0logements en le convertissant en coop\u00e9rative d\u2019habitation.<\/p>\n

Le mercredi 12\u00a0juillet, des r\u00e9sidents et des partisans, dont la FHCC, la Golden Horseshoe Co-operative Housing Federation et le Hamilton and District Labour Council, se sont rassembl\u00e9s pour appuyer les efforts que d\u00e9ploient les locataires en vue d\u2019acheter la propri\u00e9t\u00e9. Le plan b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie du soutien de la Ville de Hamilton, de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne d\u2019hypoth\u00e8ques et de logement (SCHL) et du Centre de transformation du logement communautaire. Le mouvement est men\u00e9 par Emily\u00a0Power, locataire du 272, rue Caroline, \u00e9tudiante et employ\u00e9e d\u2019un organisme \u00e0 but non lucratif.<\/p>\n

Malgr\u00e9 l\u2019important appui de la population, des r\u00e9parations majeures et n\u00e9cessaires menacent l\u2019accord de vente entre le propri\u00e9taire et les locataires.<\/p>\n

Amina\u00a0Dibe, gestionnaire principale, Relations gouvernementales, repr\u00e9sentait la FHCC au rassemblement. \u00ab\u00a0Nous savons tous que le co\u00fbt de la vie, et le co\u00fbt du logement en particulier, est en crise ici \u00e0 Hamilton et dans tout le pays\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

La protection du parc de logements abordables existant et la construction de nouvelles coop\u00e9ratives d\u2019habitation sont essentielles \u00e0 la r\u00e9solution de la crise de l\u2019offre de logements et de l\u2019accessibilit\u00e9 financi\u00e8re. La recherche La diff\u00e9rence des coop\u00e9ratives<\/a> command\u00e9e par la FHCC l\u2019an dernier a montr\u00e9 qu\u2019au cours de la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9cennie, dans plusieurs villes du Canada, le caract\u00e8re abordable de la coop\u00e9rative d\u2019habitation \u00e9tait nettement sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui du march\u00e9 locatif, et que l\u2019abordabilit\u00e9 avait augment\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on spectaculaire au fil du temps.<\/p>\n

La FHCC plaide en faveur d\u2019un financement par fonds d\u2019acquisition pour les fournisseurs de logements coop\u00e9ratifs et sans but lucratif. Lors du rassemblement, Mme\u00a0Dibe a d\u00e9clar\u00e9\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0Nous recherchons des occasions, comme ce projet \u00e0 Hamilton, de travailler ensemble et de nous d\u00e9velopper dans l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat des personnes qui ont besoin d\u2019un logement de qualit\u00e9, s\u00fbr et abordable.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n

La FHCC continuera de soutenir les locataires du 272, rue Caroline pour veiller \u00e0 conserver le caract\u00e8re abordable de l\u2019immeuble et \u00e0 ce qu\u2019il ne soit pas vendu dans un but lucratif.<\/p>\n
