Sara Maharajh est pr\u00e9sidente de la Cliffside Court Housing Co-operative<\/a> \u00e0 Scarborough, en Ontario, et gestionnaire des relations d\u2019affaires \u00e0 Cusource<\/a>, la division de l\u2019\u00e9ducation et du d\u00e9veloppement de l\u2019Association canadienne des coop\u00e9ratives financi\u00e8res<\/a>. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9sign\u00e9e championne des coop\u00e9ratives et a donn\u00e9 des conf\u00e9rences sur le mod\u00e8le d\u2019affaires des coop\u00e9ratives.\u00a0<\/em> Sara et son fils \u00ab\u2009Avec du recul, la chose la plus importante \u00e0 propos de la vie en coop\u00e9rative pour moi, ce sont les autres enfants. Nous avons cr\u00e9\u00e9 un comit\u00e9 des enfants et c\u2019\u00e9tait le d\u00e9but de mon activisme communautaire.\u2009\u00bb Ensuite, pendant les compressions du gouvernement Harris, quand j\u2019avais environ 12\u00a0ans, ma m\u00e8re m\u2019a emmen\u00e9e \u00e0 une manifestation o\u00f9 je tenais une pancarte disant\u00a0: \u00ab\u2009Mike Harris, s\u2019il vous pla\u00eet, ne prenez pas nos logements\u2009!\u2009\u00bb Le r\u00e9seau CBC m\u2019a d\u2019ailleurs interrog\u00e9e sur les raisons pour lesquelles je pensais que l\u2019habitation coop\u00e9rative \u00e9tait importante. L\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement le plus influent, toutefois, a \u00e9t\u00e9 le Camp des jeunes leaders auquel j\u2019ai pris part gr\u00e2ce au parrainage de ma coop\u00e9rative. J\u2019appuie toujours ce que j\u2019ai appris \u00e0 ce camp, et je suis tr\u00e8s reconnaissante d\u2019avoir eu cette occasion. Je pense qu\u2019il est important que les coop\u00e9ratives prennent conscience de l\u2019impact que ces camps ont sur les jeunes. J\u2019ai emm\u00e9nag\u00e9 \u00e0 la Cliffside Co-op avec mon fils en 2019. Pendant cette pand\u00e9mie, les coop\u00e9ratives d\u2019habitation ont soutenu leurs membres. La Cliffside Co-op a fourni un soutien alimentaire \u00e0 ceux qui en avaient besoin et, les samedis de d\u00e9cembre, le comit\u00e9 social a laiss\u00e9 un nouveau projet artistique \u00e0 la porte de chaque logement o\u00f9 il y avait des enfants, quelque chose \u00e0 mettre dans les fen\u00eatres, et elle a \u00e9galement veill\u00e9 \u00e0 ce que chaque enfant re\u00e7oive un cadeau de No\u00ebl. Cet esprit bienveillant est le fondement d\u2019une coop\u00e9rative d\u2019habitation. Nos jeunes sont l\u2019avenir du mouvement coop\u00e9ratif. Je si\u00e8ge au comit\u00e9 de s\u00e9lection de la bourse de la diversit\u00e9 de la CHF Toronto<\/a>, et c\u2019est inspirant d\u2019entendre les histoires de jeunes qui font une telle diff\u00e9rence dans leur communaut\u00e9. Ces bourses sont essentielles parce que l\u2019\u00e9ducation co\u00fbte cher, et ces jeunes cr\u00e9ent et comblent les \u00e9carts entre le gouvernement et les coop\u00e9ratives d\u2019habitation au fur et \u00e0 mesure qu\u2019ils s\u2019\u00e9tablissent dans les domaines de leur choix. Ils sont un facteur cl\u00e9 de la durabilit\u00e9 du mouvement. Mes d\u00e9marches de lobbying se concentrent sur l\u2019inclusion du mod\u00e8le d\u2019affaires coop\u00e9ratif en tant qu\u2019option commerciale viable et durable, parce qu\u2019il n\u2019est pas toujours enseign\u00e9 dans les \u00e9coles de commerce. Les gens pensent savoir ce qu\u2019est une communaut\u00e9. Ils peuvent vous donner une d\u00e9finition, mais beaucoup de gens ne savent pas ce qu\u2019on ressent et les relations qui sont cultiv\u00e9es quand on vit dans une communaut\u00e9 coop\u00e9rative.
