John MacLellan g\u00e8re la Western Manitoba Seniors Co\u2011op \u00e0\u00a0Brandon, au Manitoba, une coop\u00e9rative \u00ab\u00e0 capitalisation\u00bb\u00a0construite en 2013 qui compte 34 logements et qui a un\u00a0projet en cours en vue d\u2019en construire 63 autres.  Si tous les logements d\u2019une coop\u00e9rative sont occup\u00e9s\u00a0par des membres \u00e2g\u00e9s ayant un revenu fixe, comment\u00a0la coop\u00e9rative peut-elle faire face \u00e0 une baisse de\u00a0revenu d\u2019un m\u00e9nage? \u00abNous sommes chanceux d\u2019avoir\u00a0un programme de suppl\u00e9ment au loyer de la province\u00a0du Manitoba qui permet de subventionner six de nos\u00a034 logements\u00bb, pr\u00e9cise John. \u00abLa Ville de Brandon a\u00a0\u00e9galement achet\u00e9 des parts dans trois de nos logements,\u00a0ce qui nous permet de loger certains de nos membres \u00e0\u00a0tr\u00e8s faible revenu dans ces logements.\u00bb  Est-ce que loger des a\u00een\u00e9s n\u00e9cessite des t\u00e2ches\u00a0additionnelles pour un gestionnaire de coop\u00e9rative?  John souligne qu\u2019il est assez d\u00e9licat de v\u00e9rifier si les\u00a0membres \u00e2g\u00e9s vont bien et que r\u00e9compenser l\u2019autonomie\u00a0parfois peut-\u00eatre complexe. La coop\u00e9rative n\u2019a pas de\u00a0politique ni de service\u00a0interne pour garantir\u00a0que les membres sont\u00a0capables de subvenir\u00a0ad\u00e9quatement \u00e0 leurs\u00a0besoins. \u00abNous d\u00e9pendons\u00a0de la communaut\u00e9 et des\u00a0familles des membres\u00a0pour nous assurer que\u00a0tout va bien\u00bb, ajoute-t-il.  Ce d\u00e9fi r\u00e9v\u00e8le \u00e9galement\u00a0les avantages pour un\u00a0membre \u00e2g\u00e9 de vivre\u00a0dans une coop\u00e9rative \u2013\u00a0une communaut\u00e9 toute\u00a0pr\u00eate et des exp\u00e9riences\u00a0communes.  Beaucoup\u00a0de membres re\u00e7oivent\u00a0de l\u2019aide de leurs voisins pour faire l\u2019\u00e9picerie et pour les\u00a0conduire \u00e0 un rendez-vous chez le m\u00e9decin. Lorsque la Western Manitoba Seniors\u2019 Co\u2011op a \u00e9t\u00e9\u00a0pleinement occup\u00e9e, il y restait encore 100 personnes sur\u00a0la liste d\u2019attente. Le pr\u00e9sident de la coop\u00e9rative, Harvey\u00a0Douglas, avec l\u2019aide de la coop\u00e9rative, a alors pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 une\u00a0proposition en vue de cr\u00e9er 63 autres suites sur un terrain\u00a0avoisinant appartenant \u00e0 la ville. L\u2019offre a \u00e9t\u00e9 accept\u00e9e\u00a0et la construction commencera en octobre ou novembre\u00a02016. Plusieurs autres provinces ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 manifest\u00e9\u00a0leur int\u00e9r\u00eat \u00e0 l\u2019endroit de cette approche pour cr\u00e9er des\u00a0logements communautaires pour les a\u00een\u00e9s.
